Grey Mullet

They may not be as elusive as you think!.

A highly frustrating and rewarding species that is reasonably common around the shores in East Lothian.

It has to be said that, when you try to catch this species, unfortunately, you are more often than not disappointed.

A very powerful species that is highly addictive to TRY to catch, but once tried, never forgotten.

Pound for pound, the mullet is probably the hardest fighting  species available in this area.

TACKLE

As always we use the KISS rule

Keep it light

A beach-caster is as much use as a chocolate teapot.

A carp or match setup is ideal for these fish

    Grey Mullet

What a NICE PAIR!

Weather Fine: slightly overcast

Sea State: Flat

Tackle :1/0 hook and 20 gram controller  float as they were caught at some distance!

Venue: Thorntonloch Beach

Line: Again keep it light, in the range of 4 to 8 lbs.

Hooks: We use fly hooks, size 10, 12, & 14 , but believe it or not, most of our catches have been on size 1/0.

Floats we prefer are small coarse types but in a moderate sea we use weighted ones

BAIT

Bread: that's all we use. If its not broken don't fix it.

Groundbait: yes, but too much and the fish will follow it out on the tide.
