Cod

Cod attracts more people to the beach than Blackpool.

The hungriest, greediest ,fish that gets millions on the beach looking for it.

Why not try the beaches and rocks around here?

There are plenty of good marks to try.

In the winter, look out for a north easterly wind, and try to fish in the dark if possible.
The bigger the sea the better the chance of meeting "nutters" like us on the beach!!.

Most of the beaches around here are either high or low water marks. Don't bother fishing in between, or you will stand around freezing for no reason.
Two hours either side of low or high water is best.
Rock marks fish best in Summer. the  real reason for this is ,its just far  too dangerous  to fish on them in a winter gale.

TACKLE

Line: Beaches, 15-20lb. Mainline Rocks 25lb.+

On most of the beaches, a 4 to 6oz. grip lead is pretty much essential, especially in the winter.

Casting distances vary greatly on the rocks, a small lob is fine ,and don't forget to just drop down the edges of the rocks.

On the beaches, give it a try anywhere within the 100 yards mark. Remember to try in close. Once again the fish aren't always 100 yards out!!!

BAIT

Lug is our favourite. Although rag and peeler will do the trick, a little bit of squid on the tip of the hook sometimes does the trick.

The same fish before it was taken home. Notice the change in colour. It just goes to show that a few hours out the water and a change in light for the camera can make a difference to a photo.
