| Flounder
Another easy species to catch. Average size from beaches around here is around 1lb., but there are a few in the 2-3lb. range caught every year.
As always, we use the KISS rule. Keep it light. A carp setup is ideal for these fish. Line: Again keep it light, in the range of 4 to 8 lbs. Why use a beach caster to cast 70-100 yards out to sea when the majority of the fish are within 20 - 50 yards? In FOUL weather, anything with an E or east in it i.e. North Easterly, a beach-caster may be needed, just to be able to handle the weight of the sinker used. In FOUL weather a grip weight is pretty much a necessity. But even in these conditions, there is no need to cast any distance, a gentle lob will suffice. BAIT Ragworm, Mackerel sliver, peeler crab, and the good old lugworm. |
One Pound Nine Ounces The Tyne, Tyningham Estuary. Conditions: Heavy Rain.
