Golden grey mullet

A smaller but not to be underestimated member of the mullet family. For its size it puts up a great struggle. This species  has in my view been a recent dweller in East-Lothian waters. Easier to hook than its grey cousin but just as much fun and as easily lost.

TACKLE

Kiss rule works well here also.

Same carp setup as the Grey mullet as most of our catches are when we are fishing for the other. We get a few bass this way as well.

Line: Again keep it light, in the range of 4 to 8 lbs.

Hooks: We use fly hooks, size 10, 12, & 14 , but believe it or not, most of our catches have been on size 1/0.

Floats we prefer are small coarse types but in a moderate sea we use weighted ones

     A good goldie

   Weather Fine: slightly overcast

   Sea State: Flat

Tackle :1/0 hook and 20 gram   controller  float as they     were caught at some distance!

      Venue: Thorntonloch Beach

  Bait: Bread

BAIT

Bread: that's all we use. If its not broken don't fix it.

Groundbait: yes, but too much and the fish will follow it out on the tide.

Some say that you can only catch them with with sea bait I.E worms crab etc ... but we nail them with bread and seeing is believing.
